Teignmouth is situated at the mouth of the Teign estuary opposite Shaldon. Teignmouth has a lovely old Victorian pier and a selection of Regency style houses. It was a popular Victorian seaside town and important fishing port. Close to Dartmoor it was the ideal port from which to export Dartmoor granite.
The arrival of the railways initiated the holiday boom, and in Teignmouth's case the coming of the Brunel railway from Exeter. Today it has a museum, boat trips, ferry rides and the glorious Marine Parade.
